The smells, oh the smells....

Today, I was invited by my good friend, Julie and her daughter Taylor to come out to the barn and meet Scooby, Taylor's new horse.

Let me preface all of this by saying, I am the horsey type. I think that I popped out of my mom and if you could have interpreted my wails, they would have said "I want a pony". Well, when I was 16, the dream was realized when I purchased my first horse, Tika. She was a white 1/2 Arab, who was very barn sour (always wanted to turn back on the trail), and had a good price. I was so thrilled. You never met a girl so happy. It took me a year to get my drivers license, and I think one of the only reasons I worked towards that goal was so that I could get to my horse easier.

Later, I had to sell her, but chose to give her to a really nice family, that as far as I know, kept her until she died. When I lived on the East Coast for a while, a friend of mine and I would go to the horse auction, and buy horses, make 'em pretty and nice, and sell them. This saved them from becoming dog food...and we loved every minute of it.

Well, now that Taylor has Scooby, I've been excited to see him.

Today, we went out, with clouds in the sky, and with us begging it not to rain on us. He is just precious, and like a big puppy dog. Taylor's only owned him for 4 days, but he just loves her. When she calls him over, he just trots up, all sweet. I think if we had more time today, he would be laying his head on her shoulder or rolling over for a belly scratch!! The clouds opened up and it started to rain.....the smells, oh the smells of the barn. The horses, the mud, the hay...oh how I miss it.....

Note to self: Must start thinking about purchasing a horse.....someday. Every little girl needs a horse, right???

Here's Tika and I on a bareback ride through the field. When I kept her at this particular barn, we rode through a trash dump to get to the trails. It was so surreal seeing what people throw out....

Here's Tika and I and my sister on her pony Cheetah. Oh what a stubborn bugger he was!! I'm 17 and my sister 6 in this picture...

And here's the boy of the day, Scooby, stretching his legs....

I'm a horse person too! I think you're right-it's in your blood. I had horses from the age of thirteen until I was twenty five. I really miss having one, but boy, are they expesive to keep! I think Ryleigh needs a pony. (And Austin too)

Me too, we grew up with a stable of polo ponies, my dad was a polo player. I rode every day and entered gymkahna's. Still love riding just dont get to do it as oftern as I would like. This was a lovely video to see this morning just what I needed to chase away my winter blues.

Stacey,
Thanks for sharing Scooby with everyone. It was fun having you go with us and can't wait until the weather is better so we can spend more time smelling the smells. Oh the smell of horses is the BEST.

Your bestest buddy

No way!! I didn't know you were a horse person!!!! Me too. Grew up loving them and had one until I went to college. There is nothing better than riding bareback on a summer day.

See, just another reason why I love you. :-)

I bought 8 years ago after not riding for 15. It is expensive, but cheaper than a therapist. My horse keeps me sane!
