Pinewood Derby

A tradition in Cub Scouts is the Pinewood Derby. The scouts are each given a block of wood, 4 nails and 4 wheels. They are to make it into a derby car that is their design and with help from their parents. Then, on a night in January the whole pack comes together and races them down this special three lane track. The cars have to follow certain specifications (can't weight more then 5 ounces, can't be longer then 7 inches, etc). Austin wanted to do something with Lego's so we all brainsormed and came up with his design. Austin sawed and sanded with Mark and then built the Lego's on top. We all worked on the lego design to make it fit the right size. He hot glued all the pieces together and it turned out great.

Turned out he won just about everything he could. Best design overall, fastest car in his Den (all 1st graders), and fastest car overall. It was really fun. I was most proud that he was just having fun and really didn't show a lot of care whether he won or lost!
