1. Don’t bring laundry detergent. The local shops do laundry and it is very inexpensive and if you get it in early enough, you can have it back the same day.
2. Therefore, don’t bring a clothesline (the White Swan doesn’t have clothes lines, so if you are crazy and want to do laundry in your room that won’t dry for 3 days, then you must bring one.
3. Only bring 3 playtex bottles with the liners. We’ve been using 2 for milk bottles, and one for juice/water mixture. Only crosscut the 2 milk bottles if you need to after getting your baby.
4. Bring bandaids.
5. Don’t bring burp clothes, they take up too much room in the luggage. Just hoard the washcloths from the hotel and use those.
6. Only bring a couple blankets, like one lightweight and one a little heavier.
7. Don’t bring a bunch of hats for baby, unless they match a certain outfit.
8. Don’t bring super nice clothes for yourself. You end up wearing the same thing over and over anyways, and never really “dress up”.
9. Do plan on doing stuff with your travel group, it makes the trip so fun!!!!!
10. Don’t buy phone cards here to use in China, most don’t work. Your guides will help you find the right ones for the best price! (or use www.Skype.com for REALLY cheap calls from your laptop to regular phones, OR free from pc to pc!)
11. Don’t worry too much about the food. There is always something “safe” for everyone. Always steamed broccoli and other vegetable dishes!

Thanks for the good tips Stacey! I've got a whole list of questions, so you know I'm going to rely on you heavily in the next months to keep me sane. ;-)
Thank you for the travel tips. It was great to follow along your travels. Soon, you will be seeing my referral. Welcome back home.
Thanks for the great tips Stacey! This is very helpful!

Stacey - Wow - great tips! Wish I had read them before we went to China in November...I agree with each one.
Actually you don't even need to bring bottles with you - they sell exactly the same kind we use. We went to the Walmart in Nanning and found everything we needed.
I found we brought FAR too much stuff. A couple of outfits each and underwear would have been fine. I never would have brought make-up - I rarely used any...too busy. Tiny bottles of shampoo, hair gel or whatever, and small deodorants. The hotels have whatever kind of toiletries you need if you run out. The only thing I wouldn't have skimped on is medicines for Hannah. We didn't use most of them, but if we hadn't brought them, we would have needed them, you know?!!
Definitely bring a digital camera and a camcorder. Record EVERYTHING...you will be surprised at what will be important to you when you get home.
And...ask Stacey how she was able to email everything and post things to her blog so well...I wasn't able to do it very well in China.
Stacey, I haven't posted many comments. Really busy, ya know?! But Ryleigh is just gorgeous...I know what you're going thru right now so if you need anything, email me, OK??

Thanks for the tips. We will hopefully travel in May/June for the second time but you forget this stuff, I swear.
Great advice.
Good advice. Thanks for sharing your insights. I'm keeping notes for our trip. Thank you for blogging while you were in China and sharing your experience. I hope you guys settle in quickly to your new routine.
Sending good thoughts for your family.

Thanks for the tips! I was hoping that Skype worked from China. I just downloaded it a couple weeks ago.
Thank you for letting us follow your journey! Can I ask you, how did using Blogger work for you in China? We are hoping to travel soon and worry about being able to access it.
Thanks!
Julie
